Levin Statement on Trade Votes

Jun 12, 2015

WASHINGTON – Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander Levin (D-MI) today issued the following statement following votes on the House floor on TPA, TAA and the Trade Facilitation and Trade Enforcement Act (“the customs bill”):

“This vote highlights a widespread belief that current trade policy is not addressing the concerns of Americans,” said Rep. Levin. “Democrats want to maintain their leverage because there is a lack of confidence that the present negotiations for a TPP agreement are on the right track. We should use this as an opportunity to build on the foundation started by House Democrats in the Peru trade agreement, not erode it so that trade agreements have broader bipartisan support.”
